Great Expectations

Details.

We all have ideas about God. We get them from many places. The problem is not all our sources are reliable. Many of our expectations come from how we have perceived Him working in others’ lives. But their experience may not ultimately be ours, for God’s dealings are very personal. Some of our assumptions come straight out of our imagination. But God exists outside of what we may think of Him. And He is not obligated to do what we mistakenly assume He will.

In the end, we can be holding on to expectations that God will never fulfill, because they are not based on truth. When we base our hope on whom God has revealed Himself to be, we will never be disappointed.
