The Word is Truth

When a relative found out I was on the pulpit team at New Hope Chapel, she asked in astonishment: “So you just ignore those verses in Scripture that limit women?” Ummm…no. I wouldn’t be much of a Bible teacher if I cherry-picked what I wanted to believe and what I did not from God’s Word. The Bible is undeniably Holy Spirit-inspired. God does not lie. It is all truth.

But often a surface read will not give a correct interpretation. Only when we dig deep can we be accurate as to the meaning of some passages.

Today I ran across this article that beautifully expresses where I am coming from when it comes to finding God’s view on women in the Bible. It’s worth a read.

“Payne’s book and the many other scholarly egalitarian works I later read revealed that my preconceptions about egalitarians were entirely mistaken. Time and again, I found that my own reading of Scripture was simplistic. By contrast, the egalitarian reading took into account the whole wisdom of God. Complementarian scholars often cited a single verse or two torn from their context to prove their position while egalitarian scholars read and engaged the entire passage in its canonical, historical, and biblical context. The depth of egalitarian scholarship was matchless.”

I am writing a book right now on God’s view of women. The more I research and study, the more convinced I am that women are absolutely free in Christ. I’m not making this stuff up.
